works very well on dry/flaky hair
This product works better than any medicated shampoo or serum I have ever tried on my dry/flaky head. It ZAPPED the flakes away like magic. Be forewarned, however, if you have any sort of inflammation or a cut on the scalp, you will feel a bit of a burning sensation. Shikaikai has a licorice or plant root type smell, I like it but not everyone will. Once you rinse it out the smell does not linger in your hair much at all. I found it very easy to rinse out (easier than rinsing henna). I’m not sure about the claim that this product makes hair grow, but it sure does clean the hair/scalp like nothing else. My hair also felt softer after I used this (my hair texture is semi-coarse). If you’re skeptic that a natural product can be so powerful just remember, there’s a reason this stuff has been used for centuries.
Shampoo Alternative
I use it as a shampoo alternative. The first time I used it I made it into a paste and it seemed like it took forever to wash out completely. I washed my hair until the water turned cold. My hair was dry and I still had some powder left in my hair.
After that I started adding more water to the product and added alma powder. The alma helps so the shikakai doesn’t dry out my hair too much. After I diluted it to more of a thin shake as opposed to a paste, it was easier to wash out and suprisingly enough cleaned my hair well. If you have dry hair and use oils, I suggest this product to clean everything out but do not exceed the 5 minutes it suggest on the box, I leave it in for 2 minutes. In addition, my hair felt thicker after using it. Actually, I found a product that isn’t as drying that I love to use which is the Aritha powder sometimes I mix the shikakai and alma in it.
great cleanser for the scalp
This is one of the best powders to use if you want to thoroughly cleanse the scalp without the harsh use of sulfates, not to mention it helps strengthen the hair roots and prevents hair fall. my hair also appears to be thicker after consistantly using this to cleanse. I mostly use it as a rinse and let it sit on my scalp for about 15 min. then I rinse and repeat and follow up with my conditioner, my hair is soft and very resiliant after the use of this powder.
