by michael j.w. stickingsmisleading mischief from abc news:are democrats sometimes pro-life?the explanation, obviously, is no. the democratic party is, for the most part, a pro-rare set — albeit one with numerous pro-lifers.the ostensible consciously of the article is to look at how the party is “engaged in a political high-wire do — trying to bring in pro-life supporters without offending its pro-choice base.” but that’s not what the headline would have us maintain.and, still, the article is misleading, too. of course the party isn’t monolithically pro-choice. of course there are efforts underway to broaden the party’s appeal, to lure pro-lifers.the same is also place for the republican promoter, an anti-choice party that includes varied pro-choicers. but where’s the “are republicans without delay pro-realm of possibilities?” article? that would be just as cock-eyed, and yet the media are, as always, much more enthusiastic to misrepresent and sensationalize all things democratic than republican.gasp! there are pro-lifers middle the democrats! gasp! what are they universal to do?and then there’s the requisite charge from a celebrity newswriter, this time cokie roberts: “for [obama] to bring to light himself sitting on better of a soir?e platform that seems to exclude many of the beliefs of voters who are important to him makes no sense at all.”thanks cokie. here’s a brown-study pocket with unmarked 20s from the rnc.honestly, this makes “no sense at all”? it’s what always happens in presidential politics. since when do the party and the party’s candidate — democratic or republican — coincide on everything? some “beliefs” are always, and by necessity, excluded.does mccain agree with everything the republican party stands for? hardly. besides, isn’t he supposed to be a “maverick”? isn’t that what his admirers and enablers in the media would have us believe? — that he courageously stands apart from, and challenges, his own party? why is that okay, why do the media fawn all over him, suck up to him, and celebrate him, while alike resemble, and even much less significant, tensions on the other side are played up in the media and blown way out of congruity? why is mccain allowed to be a maverick, even as he conveniently morphs into a bush-polish hardliner, while obama is presented as the leader of a league in apparent disarray?well, because the media file gop-friendly geniuses like cokie roberts — not to mention the editors who wrote this amazingly, if all-too-typically, stupid headline.

Friday was Angela and Christopher Schoenweiss’ lucky day. And not just because it was the eighth day of the eighth month of 2008, a date many believe to hold good fortune.Angela gave birth to the couple’s second son at SwedishAmerican Hospital at exactly — you guessed it — 8:08 a.m. Five hours and 20 minutes later, a Belvidere couple shared their first kiss as man and wife at 1:28 p.m. at the Boone County Courthouse. The baby It didn’t seem believable, said Juliette Bauer, a labor and delivery staff nurse said, when she watched the time tick on the monitor while Angela Schoeneweiss gave birth to Grayden.“His head came out at 8:08 and 30 seconds, then his feet came out at 8:08 and 59 seconds,” Bauer said. “We kept thinking ‘this could happen, this might happen,’ and then ‘this is happening.’ ”Angela and Christopher Schoeneweiss said it was amazing that their 7-pound 12-ounce son was born at that lucky time on the lucky day. As Angela held Grayden and kissed his head, the nurses joked about how special Grayden’s eighth birthday will be.“We better start saving up for that party now,” Christopher said with a laugh as he watched his baby boy open his eyes and stretch his arms. The marriage Susan and Marc Farel of Belvidere were giddy as they sat and waited outside a Boone County courtroom. The couple has been together for — of course — eight years. The two planned on the date because Susan Farel said she has an obsession with the number eight.“I think it’s a pretty number, it means eternity to me,” Susan said. “We have a lot of eights in our life. iPhone Game Fumbles Security, Gets Delisted From The Store
I’m surprised it even took this long for this to happen. Developers have swarmed so fast to write the coolest iPhone application that privacy and security concerns were probably not a high priority.
Gizmodo reports that an RPG game called Aurora Feint has been delisted from the Apple store for bad security practices levitra kaufen. The offense? The game takes your entire contact list and sends it unencrypted to their servers achat viagra. The developers claim that their intents have been noble:
When we discovered that the Apple SDK allowed us to look through your contact list we thought it would be a great idea to automatically show you which friends are playing the game. Why automatically? Well, everyone always complains about the keyboard on the iPhone and how annoying it is to type on it. So we thought, “Hey, why don’t we make this feature REALLY easy to use ? no typing!” And such, the community feature was born. Some people have said that it would have been ok if we had a better notice explaining what was going on. I agree! We weren’t trying to be sneaky about how this worked. It was just overlooked. No one we showed it to even asked a question about it ? nor did we. It just simply never came up as a potential issue when we beta tested the game with early users.

So, no one thought that taking your entire contact list, and sending it unencrypted to their servers is a privacy/security problem? Doh. Luckily, Apple obviously has a team that looks for omissions such as these. Unfortunately, this incident strengthens the argument that Apple needs to have strict control over iPhone apps, and I prefer to have a choice on the matter - even if it means I can kiss my security and privacy goodbye.
