One of the greatest soaps ever made?
I have been using this shave soap for a few months now and I must say that I don’t feel the need to try anything else. The scent of this soap is that of a old-time barbershop, it’s almost nostalgic. The lather is created almost effortlessly, 7 or 8 swirls with a good brush and you have something that looks like cool-whip. If you’re looking for an extremely close shave, and a wonderful scent buy this shave soap. You won’t regret it.
Far and Away the Best
Tabac is simply the best triple milled, tallow based shave soap around. The base scents are bergamot, neroli and lavender. It provides a subdued floral yet masculine aroma. Another reviewer stated 7 or 8 swirls with the brush is enough, but I believe you should go longer. Spend 20 or 30 secs. loading your brush with paste and then spend another 60 to 90 secs. whipping shave lather in a mug or bowl. You will be rewarded with the richest, creamiest, slickest lather you’ve ever come across. It shaves simply wonderfully leaving the skin hydrated and moist afterwards. For many wet shavers Tabac is the measuring stick by which all others are measured. Used with a quality badger brush and a DE razor you are in for shaving-zen.
A great, no-frills consistant performer.
Great scent, doesn’t linger much, the lather is copious, verrrry slippery and quite hydrating — drys out slower than, for example, Taylor of Old Bond Street sandalwood. The white ceramic tub is a very nice touch, and has a clean, modern, almost bauhaus, very German design (while the English soaps come in an Olde World, Distinguished-Gentleman kind of container.) This soap really rewards a very light touch on that blade. I swear the blade cuts better with this than with barbasol goop or TooBS soap.
