MAxforce Gel
This stuff worked as advertised. Put it down near the trail for carpenter ants in the evening, by night they were all over it. Next day, no ants to be found.
It’s been about 2 weeks and no ants.
For the past 5 years I’ve had infestations of ants every spring. Like clockwork, swarming ants enter my house in early April. I would spray Raid etc. and it would slow them down but they’d keep coming for weeks after the initial swarm. At least 3 different types of ants come into the house at different intervals of the spring.
This year I was ready. I bought 2 boxes of the gel last year (along with the dispensing gun) to have it ready for this spring. As soon as I saw the winged little buggers I put down a bunch of this stuff near their trails. The following two days saw fewer ants and within a week I saw none at all. I did this at three different times for three different types of ants (pavement, small black ants and large black ants).
In my kitchen I found pavement ants (they love anything sugary) which were going after a bottle of maple syrup I had out. I put a few drops of the Max Force by the wall where I saw their trail and watched as they ate it up. 2 days later, no ants.
Honestly I can’t believe it. I keep waiting for them to come back, I even poured a tiny bit of maple syrup on the counter to see if they’d come back and so far, nada. I’m only giving 4 stars to this b/c it’s only been a couple of weeks and I can’t say they’re gone for the long term yet (potentially this stuff could rate 5 stars).
I have to say I’m impressed, this stuff really seems to work.
**FOLLOW UP**
About a month later I got more pavement ants coming from another direction in my kitchen. Not sure if it’s the same colony, but something interesting happened. They came searching for food and there was a drop of honey on the countertop that they went after. As soon as I saw them I reapplied a few drops of Maxforce near the where they were trailing. After an initial group of ants went for it, all the other ants that came along would specifically trail AROUND every spot where I applied the bait. It was as if the early scouts tipped off the rest of the colony.
Thankfully I had another brand of bait (Terro) and laid it out as well. So far they’re going for it. I can only guess it’s because they’re not familiar with this one yet.
Conclusion:
There’s good reason these guys have been around for millions of years…
