Celestron Vibration Suppression Pads Description:

Telescope and spotting scope vibration is caused by windy conditions, an unsteady mount or tripod or even an accidental bump to the instrument, and results in reduced image quality. Celestron’s set of three Vibration Suppression Pads will reduce vibration time by almost 100% and decrease vibration amplitude. The pads fit between the bottom of the tripod legs and the ground, a simple and functional solution to the problem of image disturbance. They work on any surface: grass, dirt, concrete, asphalt, wood, etc., for both telescopes and spotting scopes.

Customer Reviews:

Vibration Suppression5
I was a bit sceptical about the claims for this product but it really does work. It has virtually eliminated vibration that used to occur every time I touched the scope, e.g. to track an object or focus. Well worth the minor investment.

useful vibration pads5
I am very satisfied with this product. It dampens out vibration as advertised. The pads are also rugged. The pads are also useful as a base for the legs which keeps the legs from sinking in the ground. I use it with a Nexstar 8 se.

Hard to tell if this helps stabilize the scope4
I bought this to reduce vibration on a Celestron CPC1100. It does seem to help some but not as noticeable as you would think. It does help getting the scope level since the pads have a wider base than the tripod legs when placed on soft ground.

I sometimes will leave them out when I take the telescope inside so that I can repeat my viewing at the same location the following night (lots of trees in my backyard).

Customer Reviews:

Cheap, Handy Conversion Lens… I Like it a Lot.5
As mentioned before, this is not a lens, it’s a conversion lens.
I purchased this to use on the kit 18-55mm lens on my Canon Rebel XT. The kit lens on the camera is pretty decent, but not worth buying a ridiculously priced conversion lens… not to mention, buying a nice Canon fisheye is way out of my budget at the moment.
With all that said, I bought the Opteka because I wanted the semi fisheye effect for some experimental & skateboard photography, and because I’m too broke from the holidays to purchase a high end, dedicated fisheye lens.
The conversion lens impressed me quite a bit. Using the aforementioned kit lens, I attached the supplied conversion ring (metal, which is good) as the conversion lens’ threads are too small to fit the 58mm threading of the Rebel XT’s stock lens. No big deal, really… screw on the ring, then screw the conversion lens into the ring and you’re all set.
If you zoom back all the way, you can get a significantly distorted image, appearing like an orb surrounded by dark vignetting (like looking through a door’s peephole).
If you zoom past the vignetting, you can achieve some pretty decent wide angle shots, with some expected distortion on the far left, far right, and very center of the image… then again, that’s what fisheye’s are all about.
The conversion lens comes with a little hood scoop, but it really doesn’t need it, and if you pull your focus back all the way with the scoop out, you’ll wind up with two metallic crescents increasing your vignetting.
The conversion lens comes in a pretty rigid leather (or fake leather, I really don’t know) case lined with a suede-like material. If you’re buying this for your Rebel’s 18-55 kit lens, expect to see a metal ring in the box.
The conversion lens unscrews toward the bottom, and when the bottom section is attached to your camera you wind up with a macro lens. I’ve played with it just enough to say that “it works,” but 99% of my usage is based around the fisheye functionality.
If you’re looking to blow around $30 and you want to have fun experimenting with your DSLR (or video camera if it fits or you have a ring adapter for it), you can expect to get your money’s worth out of this thing.
Shooting with a fish/semi fish requires a different type of mentality than shooting normal photos. While fisheye photography can be overdone, they make for really good up-close action shots, nature shots, and even landscapes & experimental work. This conversion kit *will* distort your image, it’s supposed to. It’s all about using the curvature to enhance your subject.
Last note: on some tests from 2 up to 10 feet away, the auto focus functionality seems to work fine with this extension. If you pull the lense back all the way, the vignetting will be a black blurry halo, as the multipoint auto focus will concentrate on whatever you’re pointing at (rather than the conversion lens’ inner lining).
For best results, prepare your shot and focus manually. Very fun conversion kit, by no means professional grade, but pretty darn good. Great to have in the camera bag.

Worth it for the fun factor.5
I bought this converter for my Canon Rebel XSi.

For the price, I am perfectly happy with the quality of construction, the included 52/58 mm adapter ring and the overall capabilities of this item. That is what my score of 5 stars is based on. I am not comparing this item to lenses that cost twenty or thirty times as much.

Concerning the optical properties of this fisheye, you should be aware that it exhibits pretty noticeable chromatic aberration, however, this can be easily removed with software (I use Photoshop, but apparently a plugin exists for The Gimp, if you are looking for a free alternative). As a result, images will probably have to be processed, but it takes about 20 seconds to adjust and apply the correction.

On my camera (with the stock 18-55 mm Canon lens), depending on the focal length you select, the image will be anything from a full circle in the center of the frame to a full-frame image with no vignetting. It’s up to you to chose how you want to compose the image. I suggest you search for images taken with this converter on Flickr or some other photo site to see if it is what you want.

I have only used the macro adapter once or twice, so I won’t review it.

In summary, for the price, this converter is good quality, a lot of fun and worth having if you want to obtain fisheye shots.

WOW!!5
This is a great product. The wide angle option is exactly what was needed for my landscape shots. The fisheye feature allows you to take some really cool shots but the best part is the macro lens. Finally, I have a good macro lens and the whole thing cost under $40.00. This is a must have!!!

Customer Reviews:

Printed out return label within 10 minutes of opening2
I ordered this frame as a gift for my mom for the Christmas. I planned on buying multiple memory cards and send her an updated card of pictures every month or so.

I opened it and plugged it in…

Immediate Problem 1) The screen is WIDE (16:9) which is the new thing for HDTVs, but not for photos… Unless you have a widescreen camera (who has that) or format each picture to fit the width, you have useless black bars on the side - and it looked awful.

Immediate Problem 2) The speakers were emitting a buzzing noise that did not change based upon the volume setting on the remote or the mechanical dial. It could be because it was left outside by UPS and its cold in Albuquerque, but still unacceptable.

Immediate Problem 3) The plastic frames were cheesy and wouldn’t match anything in my moms house.

Immediate Problem 4) The quality of the pictures were awful. Who needs a brand new 8MP camera if you are going ot view them on here.

I bought this on a whim because of the price. But within 10 minutes of opening I printed out a return label and wrote this review. The only reason it got 2 star (instead of one) is you get what you pay for.

Do your research before you buy. Thankfully Amazon has free shipping for returns. I will be buying a different (4:3) digital frame.

Great frame, nice price, works well5
I bought one of these and liked it so much, I ordered two more as gifts.

Elsewhere on Amazon is an 8-inch version with lots of reviewers commenting on the aspect ratio, pixel size, etc. I tested my unit with photos I resampled, cropped or left untouched. They all displayed fine. Coby has either improved its algorithm, the other reviewers did not read the manual carefully, or Coby has corrected or improved the product since the reviews were posted. The reviews are worth reading, though, since there are so few here.

Just to get more photos on an SD card, I used some free photo editing software to batch resize the photos to a max width of 800. They display just as nicely as the full-sized photos. I tested various various sizes, and below 800 the quality falls off.

BTW, the unit can be switched from 9×16 to 3×4 ratio.

Great product4
We purchased this product for my inlaws, when we received it we found that the 1 gig SD SecureDigital Flash Card that we were suppose to get by adding the product code was not in the box.
We did go and buy a card for the frame, you will want to get one. We filled it with pictures of our children and our grand kids so the my inlaws would have the pictures to brag with.
After getting the product and filling the card and sending it to the grandparents my wife and I went and got another one for us. The one we got for us had a card with it.
It is a very nice product.

Thus, the Mid-Size underwent a complete redesign to improve its already formidable collection of features. Tech Talk
Exit Pupil-Refers to the size of the circle of light visible at the eyepiece of a binocular. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image. To determine the size, divide the objective lens diameter by the power (an 8×32 model has an exit pupil of 4mm).

Eye Relief-The distance a binocular can be held away from the eye and still present the full field-of-view. Extended or long eye relief reduces eyestrain and is ideal for eyeglass wearers.

Field-of-View (F.O.V.)-The side-to-side measurement of the circular viewing field or subject area, defined by the width in feet or meters of the area visible at 1000 yards or meters. A wide-angle binocular features a wide field-of-view and is better for following action. Generally, the higher the magnification, the narrower the field-of-view.

    Customer Reviews:

You can’t pound tent pegs with them.4
They are, and they aren’t, great binocs

What they are: as it says, the lightest and least expensive IS binoculars on the market (right now). The optics themselves are only merely very good, but - HAND HELD - with the IS activated, they allow me to read fine print about 20% closer than with my Leica 8×32 Ultras. On a rest, the Leicas are superior. It’s the elimination of the jiggles - the 8×25 Canons don’t give an image that’s as bright and contrasty as those high dollar Leicas, but the steadier image more than makes up for that.

What they aren’t: waterproof or armored. So have a care if you use them in conditions of rain or dust. They’re much more complicated than simple binocs, with electric circuits inside, and the matter of reliability does come into consideration - but in the first year, they’ve survived life in the tote bag ,bouncing along dirt roads without a hiccup. Two more things: besides armoring and ruggedizing, Canon had to compromise _somewhere_ to make them this small. So, while the IS deals well with rapid human shaking. it doesn’t seem to correct at all for slow motions. I imagine the engineers were forcd to leave off the sensors for slow motions, to fit everything else in. And, they use CR123 batteries, more expensive and harder to find in a pinch than AA batteries. Of course, if the batteries run dead, all your are left with is a functional set of very good, if a bit bulky, 8×25 binocs. What Canon has created is $300 binoculars that - hand held, with the IS active - outperform my high dollar Leica 8×32 Ultras. And, I imagine, the Nikon SE’s, too. No kidding.

A good binocular for light use4
I bought these binoculars because I was just a bit frustrated with using regular binoculars. I already have a set of weatherproof Minolta binocs that cost about $200, but wasn’t finding it useful because the effort required to hold it steady enough to see detail just made it fatiguing to use for any length of time

Seeing as I’ve had great success with Image Stabilization in SLR lens, and my point and shoot, I thought I would give this Canon a try

I like it. It’s quite light for its size, and compact enough that I don’t feel burdened to bring this with me for any kind of event short of a long hike up a large mountain. It does take a CR123 battery which is kind of expensive if you buy them at a department store. You should try to find them online. Many high end flashlights use this type of battery, and they are available for around $2 online. Surefire (a top flashlight brand) batteries are what I recommend and use everywhere (in my flashlights and cameras). These kinds of batteries have a long shelf life so it’s no problem to buy a few extra

The main reason for this binocular is the stabilization. In reality, the Image Stabilization is actually quite subtle. You still have to do your best still to keep the binocs steady, but the stabilization adds a just bit extra steadiness to the image, enough to make a difference you can notice. You have to keep the button at the top of the device pressed with your finger…it turns off as soon as you let go of the button.
All in all, the IS works well for the natural minute shakiness of your hand but larger movements are not compensated for as you would expect. So don’t expect the image to be steady if you are trying to spot animals from inside a car. If you deliberately move the binoculars side to side, you can see the mechanism doing its work as it floats and then hits its limits.

    The drawbacks…

    - the eye relief is only 13.5 mm…so it’s not really suitable for eyeglass wearers. I find an eye relief of 16mm minimum to be very usable with eyeglasses.
    - uses harder to find CR123A batteries.
    - the device isn’t water resistant, so you have to keep this thing completely dry
    - Image Stabilization effect is quite bit more sutble than you might expect, but it’s definitely effective enough to be noticeably more steady than a normal binocular

I think the future of binoculars is definitely IS. I see that Canon has a version 2 of their IS in a more expensive model, so maybe the action of the IS is improved and may be added to this model in the future. If you are a casual user who just wants an effective binocular, this is a great one to choose. Canon makes higher grades and higher magnifications for the more serious user.

Viewing Power per Dollar - Second to None!5
I have to give these binoculars 5 stars, not because they are the finest optics money can buy, but because they give the clearest and steadiest handheld viewing you can get at anywhere near this price. Value for the money is the point, here. But, besides value, they actually are very good quality optics! They feel well made. Although they are mostly plastic, it’s good quality material, they don’t feel cheesy. No, they are not built like a Leica tank (intended to survive an atomic blast), but the image stabilization is so amazing, I am willing to be a little extra careful with them. You look through them and press that button, and, PRESTO, the view just stops jiggling! It’s just fantastic! The I.S. has greatly improved my stargazing pleasure. Maybe I have especially bad hand tremor, but I would bet anybody would notice a big difference. I really love them!!

    Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you are sitting in the nosebleed seats of a stadium or an opera house, with Canon’s 8 x 25 IS binoculars you’ll get an outstanding close-up view of the action. The binoculars are designed to fit perfectly in your hands and have a rubber coating for nonslip grip and protection from damage. The focus dial is center-mounted and the image stabilizer controls are easily accessible from either hand. Canon’s optical image stabilization technology eliminates shake and reduces curvature of field. The image stabilizer operates with a CR123A Lithium battery. The lenses are coated with Super Spectra multicoating that improves image quality by maximizing contrast and minimizing color smear.

    Image Stabilization and More
With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon’s IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon’s professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP shape alters to refract or ‘bend’ the light path by precisely the right amount, thus fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response that effectively suppresses image shake.

    Super Spectra Coating
A number of optical factors affect the brightness of an image, including the amount of incidental light that is reflected by the lens. An uncoated lens will refelect away as much as 8% of the incidentail light, significantly dimming the image. Canon’s Super Spectra Coating prevents that reflection.

    What do the numbers mean?
15×50? 8×25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification — 8x, 12x, 15x and so on — and the diameter of their objective lenses — 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The larger the first number is, the larger the object will appear to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object that is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object located just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important because the larger the objective lens, the more light it can admit for brighter, more detailed images, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations.
