When Project Gotham Racing dev Bizarre Creations was scooped up by Activision last year, many 360 owners were left wondering what would become of the system’s flagship racing franchise. Speaking to Kikizo, Microsoft Game Studios VP Shane Kim provided one possible (and likely) scenario: put Forza Motorsports 2 team Turn 10 behind the wheel.
Kim says that MS is eager for Turn 10 to branch out and “do more creative execution in the racing space.” (Read: more than just hardcore racing sims.) Kim expressed a desire to take “a fresh creative approach” to a fifth game in the series, and, to that end, proposed imagining “a future where [Turn 10] would develop a new version of Project Gotham Racing.” We humbly suggest that - should they get the gig - Turn 10 replace Kudos with actual MS points.

Motorherp is organizing what will be a series of Rapid Prototype Sessions over at Shmup-Dev. These will be informal “contests” lasting about 2 weeks. I expect some very good and interesting stuff from these, as Motorherp says: “The aim here is not to create polished titles put rather to explore new ideas.”
General rules can be found here. Session 1 starts today, and the theme is a good one:
Create a shmup with meaningful gameplay in which the player is not allowed to fire their own projectiles.

Star Soldier R
Sección Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
I wasn’t going to get Star Soldier R because it lacks an arcade mode. However, a discussion of the game at the Shmups Forum changed my mind. Boy was I wrong about this game. It really is a lot of fun, and all because you play for score. As you play through it a couple times you’ll really start to see the potential for combinations and extra points. Well worth the 800 points on WiiWare.

I’ve gotten a BUNCH of emails for people complaining about the cost of Sims 2 and asking me to somehow wave my magic computer wand and make is so they can download Sims 2…for free.
First off, I paid for all of my various versions of Sims 2. I know it sounds bitchy, but why in the world would I give it to you for free?
Also, it would be illegal for me to redistribute my copy of Sims 2 to you. I’m sure you’re a really cool person and you help old people across the street and stuff but I’m not risking a fine or jail time for anyone.
Lastly, have you checked out the price of Sims 2 lately?
Let me back up.
You can get Sims game for $31.98 on Amazon.com. Every stinkin’ one of them.
If you’re aching for Sims 2 then you can get The Sims 2 Deluxe - Sims 2 and Nightlife - from 18.98.
Also, Maxis just released Double Deluxe which gives you The Sims 2, Nightlife and Celebration Stuff all starting at 30.98. [Prices include shipping.]
So, while I understand that for some of you guys 18.98 might seem like a lot of money, think of how quickly you could save up the cash.
That’s four Venti White Mochas at Starbucks.
That’s about four Quarter Pounders w/cheese and fries from McDonald’s.
That’s…well, you get the idea.
Save your money. Buy the game and start enjoying one of the most popular computer games created. I promise you won’t be sorry. And if you find a site where I can play Sims 2 online for free then let me know.

I already own Lost Planet and I’m on the fence about buying the expanded version. Akrid Hunting in Lost Planet: Colonies Edition makes it very tempting. The concept is simple: people and people in giant robots versus giant, insect-like aliens on tundra. Sure, you get to fire rounds at the Akrid in Lost Planet, but Colonies lets people play them online as seen in this trailer.
The move set for the mantis-like Akrid known as the Chryatis looks limited, but to the benefit of the Akrid its claw can slice through multiple humans. The battle of scale, mega sized aliens versus tiny humans, makes Lost Planet: Colonies unique compared to other run and gun action games.
Well, I bought Street Fighter II Turbo when I already owned Street Fighter II. I guess I can do it again and keep my fingers crossed Capcom doesn’t release Super Lost Planet: Hyper Colonies.

We here at Sega Nerds have always loved Chu-Chu Rocket and fondly remember the days of our online shenanigans to this day. What makes this commercial great, aside from the disturbingly catchy song, is how cute it is to see a cat chomping on small, unsuspecting mice, and then see a rocket explode through said cat’s body.
Ahh, I miss Chu-Chu Rocket.

Ambling into the GameSetWeekend, we’re proud to debut some new GameSetLinks - starting off with some more discussions from the makers of ‘Grand Theft Childhood’ on the new instalment in the series - at least from a theoretical standpoint!
Elsewhere in this particular parcel of joy - Gnome’s Lair talks to a gloriously homebrew adventure game veteran, Boing Boing Gadgets busts out a neat exergaming history, and we learn something useful from Nordic Game, fermentation-wise.
Ready, set, gone:
Grand Theft Childhood Author Weighs in on GTA IV — Open Education
‘This is strikingly similar to the concerns over and editorials against comic books, radio, gangster films and—back in the late 19th century—the evil influence of paperback novels on teenage girls.’
the random Gnomes’ random Lair: ‘a few gnomish questions / The Balrog of Zenobi’
‘Zenobi Software, the Rochdale Balrog, the Cat and the Cockroach were responsible for over two hundred excellent -nay, classic- ZX Spectrum text-adventures’ - interview ensues, the Zenobi site also worth checking for awesome British text adventure oddness!
GameTap : [Playlist of the Week] - Randy Pitchford
Gearbox’s Pitchfork (haha!) digs uber-cult Mechner title The Last Express, intriguingly.

Space Invaders 360 @ZKM Besucherfest [Update] | toblux blog a.k.a. toblog
Neat art alert: ‘Space Invaders 360 is a tribute to the ’70s and ’80s where a good video game didn’t need a 3D-Shader or a 256bit rendering-pipeline to spend hours of joy and fun.’
